Hi Rachel --
Finally had a chance to read your paper (and the corrected first paragraph you sent me). It is an extremely well-written and cogently argued reading of the Preface, with all of the salient points. I congratulate you on this essay.
Brava!

10:34 am - In the spirit of Dags...
|

( Or, in case it isn't clear enough... )
In other news, I get to go home today! I'm excited to see my parents/people from church, eat different food (maybe a pomegranate, if one can be found, and definitely some berries and a Cadbury creme egg), and drive.
Today will consist of reading, cleaning, packing, a bit of class...and then three hours on the road (during which I will probably try to read, but actually end up talking to my mother a whole lot.)
Love! It's good.

I'm becoming addicted to Step Aerobics.
Also, I've developed a new practice of making my own sodas whenever I'm at the UC: I bring along a small bottle of vanilla extract, mix together a splash of that with seltzer and Splenda...and voila! It looks sketchy enough to make strangers nearby giggle and point, though. And suggest that I get a flask to complete the image ;P
I need to get back to journal-keeping, both lj and real ones.
I've made 'semester's resolutions' instead of New Year's. I will aim to walk up the steep hill next to the UC either backwards, sideways, or grape-vined every day (so far, so good); I will join the gym/aerobics class and attend regularly (joined; so far, so good); I will be more social (so far, so good).
I will overall try to be happier and lead a better-balanced life.
A couple others, not for here...

Ok, I know, I know...you're not supposed to talk to strangers on the internet.
But someone from Germany had been bugging me on Skype several times for the past week, so finally I talked to them, and we're having quite a nice conversation auf. D :)
I figure that as long as I don't say anything serious, only good will come from this. Plus, I get to practice my Deutsch!
:)( the conversation, long and generally boring/auf Deutsch, mainly for myself )
Basically, even if this "Lari" person is actually a creepy old guy....they speak German. Which is good :-P

What books would you guys recommend I read?
I had a lot of free time last semester and I got back into the habit of reading a lot. I'm currently working on the LOTR books...I'm looking both for classics and lesser known writing, books of any and all genres, fiction and non. Books that have changed the way you view something, had a profound effect on you, books that you think it'd be a shame for someone not to read. Or just books that are really fun and entertaining.
Thanks in advance :)

( Projected Grades w/commentary, +thoughts on next semester's courses )
A couple of other random things: -I went to church twice over Thanksgiving break and I actually sang the hymns. It felt good. -I brought back a bunch of books with me to tide me over during the next 2.5 weeks: The Bellmaker, Mossflower, Salamandastron, Loamhedge, Sons and Lovers, Naked. I'm almost done with one of them, so let's see how long the rest last me... :P -I see David in 17 (almost 16!) days for the first time in 4 months. -It was really good to see people over break. Jana, Courtney, Alice- :D. Rosie's party was also great, though apparently I left before things got memorable. Good to meet you, Dan :). Also good to see other Dan, spend Thanksgiving with Kay, get some snow (!!), drive again, and catch up with my parents.
Very grounding and calming to be 'home', whatever that is.
